Joining our Choir

Entry to the Choir

As the Sinfonia Chorale is a chamber choir, the number of people to each voice part has to be limited. Every person in the Choir plays an important and responsible role and a high degree of commitment is essential.

If you are interested in joining the Choir please contact our Membership Secretary, Sandra Wakefield, (Tel: 0115 960 6236) who will be happy to discuss with you what is involved and explain the audition process.
Alternatively, you can contact us via the form on our website

Applications are reviewed by the Musical Director and the committee.

Subject to there being an appropriate opening available the Musical Director may invite applicants to attend one or two rehearsals and auditions will be arranged as soon as is practicable.

Rehearsals

These take place on a Tuesday evening from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm at Daybrook Baptist Church, Mansfield Road, Daybrook, Nottingham NG5 6AD.

There are approximately 36 rehearsals each year which tend to coincide with school terms.

Regular attendance at rehearsals is essential if the choir is to maintain its high standard of performance and a diary of dates for concerts and Members' rehearsals is always available on the website as far in advance as possible.

Music

This is usually borrowed either from Nottingham Performing Arts Library Service or from the Sinfonia Chorale’s own library

Members are encouraged to acquire their own copies of frequently used books e.g.

  • The Oxford Book of English Madrigals
  • The Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems
  • Carols for Choirs Book 1
  • Carols for Choirs Book 2
  • Carols for Choirs Book 5
  • European Sacred Music

Subscription

To allow the Choir to benefit from the talents and services of a professional conductor and accompanist, we charge Members an annual subscription.

This is currently £180 per year and paid in monthly instalments by Standing Order.
